How Do You Know

How do you know spring is here?
When lovebirds sing happier and groom one another,
and they begin to warm up their nest,
and when they don’t mind being outside;
when the sky smiles a baby blue all day
and your pet takes naps in your lap.

How do you know spring is here?
When sunrise greets you earlier every morning
and you don’t mind greeting back
because the green out the window
won’t darken your day.

How do you know spring is here?
When peach blossoms peek over the fence
and lavender orchids can’t take eyes off you
because you’re the reason
they bloom each year.

How do you know spring is here?
When you visit your doctor and come home
feeling better than you went in,
and you saw people who are kind
and smiled beautifully,
and you talked with and praised children.

How do you know spring is here?
When songs that before made you sad
now make you feel happy and alive
and the sun warms your body
and you sit outside and enjoy it.

How do you spring is here?
Because dandelions are posing
and praising the heavens
and get ready to feed the bees
that will make flowers bloom again.
